It's that time of year when we see the annual best of lists. Here are a couple of fun ones:

Along those lines, here are our won picks for favorite house, 2014:

Barbara's Pick:
Barbara's House Pick
"This wasn't my listing, but I showed it to a client over the summer and fell in love. Built in 1912, it was in nearly original condition, the late owner having been born in the house in 1926 and never having felt the need to make changes. Elegant, simple, utterly and completely charming, it was  a true Cleveland Park landmark. I heard bidding was very competitive and it sold way over asking. I hope the seller was looking down and smiling.

Tom's Pick:

This wonderful house was listed by an agent in our office. It shows that old houses don't have to be torn down all the time. After a total interior renovation, it sold in one day, but it still had the old time charm.

Marc's Pick:

I love this house.  I've been in it many times over the years, as the seller is the father of some old friends of mine.  Through the years they have done some great things to the house, but it still maintains its old world charm (built in 1938).  The house includes a stunning kitchen renovation, large family room (used for many parties), and huge deck with a hot tub.  Very close to both Downtown Silver Spring and the 16th ST/Georgia Ave shopping areas, this home is also in a primo location.

Susan's Pick:

When I am showing in DC I feel like a kid in candy shop. DC's condo/coop market is so fun right now. This penthouse in Kalorama is a coop in a building noted for its charm and dignity. Entry Foyer with skylights, formal DR & LR (with fireplace) Den, 4 BRS 2 1/2BAS. In addition to the 3049 sq. ft. apartment a spectacular privately owned 2400 sq. ft. roof terrace 360o views of DC, VA & MD.  A truly unique and gracious home.

Barbara's clients bought this house which I absolutely loved! The property has a beautifully appointed home on 23 acres with a 5 stall barn and a separate carriage house. The house boasts spacious open rooms, large entertaining areas, and exquisite craftsmanship! The perfect countryside retreat while still within commuting distance to DC!

Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year to all of our friends, clients, family, colleagues, vendors and the Long and Foster staff - you all make this job a joy and a privilege. Thank you!

November 2014 E-News Letter

Happy Thanksgiving!

The real estate market in our area has slowed a bit. This is not at all unusual for this time of year and often portends a really robust spring market. As a reminder, the "spring" in this sense means anything from late January to very early April. As surprising as this seems, we are often actually slowing back down again by May 1. So don't wait for the Azaleas! If you are thinking about a move in 2015, call us this fall/winter to get a strategy in place for after the first of the year.
To help make getting ready for any move easier, we've got some great resources to share with you.

Fernando Principe, Royal Painting and Light Construction. Fernando and his team can handle everything necessary to get your home in tip top shape - whether for yourselves or to assure top dollar in a sale. 301 379 1638 or fernando@royalpaintinglc.com

Alexandra FryOrchestrated Moves. Alexandra and her team are ready to help with every move but really excel in specialized situations: very large homes, seniors downsizing into new living opportunities, disabled / special needs folks, divorce and other complicated multi-house moves, and estates. 301 801 5044, orchestratedmoves@yahoo.com

Giancarlo Dall'OrsoB B & D Moving GianCarlo has been part of our team for some time now but it always bears repeating that good movers can help before the sale with getting the house ready for the market by helping with the decluttering process - by moving extra items to other family members and/or second homes, and by arranging short term storage for the extra bits while we show the house. 571 233 7009, giancarlo@bbdmoving.com

Frank Coyne, Junk In The Trunk. Hands down, the best hauling company out there. For a very reasonable cost they will sort for donation, safely recycle electronics and generally make your unwanted "stuff" disappear. What's not to love? On top of that, as their website says, they smell better!877-548-8669 service@jitt.com

Nick Sage, SmartBox. Ahhh, the Pods. The harbingers of the spring market, they sprout like daffodils in driveways and on curbs, ready to temporarily hold your extras while we get the house sold. Nick / SmartBox are the best in the business and our clients even get a discount! 4102806013 nick.sage@smartboxusa.com
